the politics of knowledge: „Not descriptive, not informative,
The seminar dealt with two issues:: Firstly, the obliqueness of certain art works that forces spectators to leave a majoritarian position of „knowing“ and to enter a precarious position of „not knowing“ of „having to ask“. Secondly, the refusal of certain artists to represent an identity, to speak as a „token“, to be the spokesperson of a group („Latino artist“). Four interviews with Trinh T. Minh-ha provided a frame to ask about the productive limits of knowledge in art as well as in activism. Terms such as „speaking nearby“, „translation“, „void“, and „poetic language“ were considered as her way to address the specifics of knowledge production through film and other art forms.
